Marylou Escobar Selected as Glendale Unified Teacher of the Year
GLENDALE, CA – Marylou Escobar, a kindergarten Spanish dual language immersion teacher at John Muir Elementary School, has been selected as Glendale Unified School District’s 2025 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Escobar will represent the District at this year’s Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year competition.
Mrs. Escobar has been a celebrated educator for nearly 40 years. In addition to being an exceptional academic leader, she is known for her warmth, dedication, and the joyful learning environment she creates for her students.
“Mrs. Escobar embodies the meaning of a loving kindergarten teacher. Her enthusiasm for the teaching profession is contagious,” said Muir Elementary School Principal Viehanoosh Nazarian. “She always puts students first, starting every morning with smiles and hugs. Her classroom is full of rich language instruction as she works tirelessly to ensure her students learn Spanish in the most effective way possible.”

Glendale Unified School District selects one outstanding educator to advance to the Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year competition each year. Administrators and educators submit nominees from across the District. Selections typically alternate between elementary and secondary teachers. Pearl Hernandez, 5th Grade Teacher, Cerritos Elementary School
A dedicated educator and instructional leader, Pearl Hernandez has been inspiring students and colleagues since 2007. Known for her data-driven approach and engaging instructional strategies, Pearl creates a classroom environment where all students thrive. She integrates technology, project-based learning, and real-world applications to deepen student understanding and achievement. Her leadership extends schoolwide through her work with English language development, student support, and mentoring new teachers.
Jennifer Romeo, Kindergarten Teacher, John C. Fremont Elementary School
With 27 years of experience, Jennifer Romeo is a dedicated and nurturing educator who excels at building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. She creates a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. Known for her organizational skills and high expectations, Ms. Romeo implements differentiated instruction and collaborates closely with peers to improve educational outcomes. She is also a valued mentor and leader within her school and district.
Robyn Wisinski, 1st Grade Teacher, Thomas Edison Elementary School
Robyn Winsinski is a passionate and caring educator who goes above and beyond to ensure the success of every student, particularly those with special needs. Her whole-child approach promotes academic, social, and emotional growth, creating an environment where students can flourish.
