Choose a College/University

College & University Options

Students have four basic college and university systems to choose from:

  • Degree Offered

    • Associate of Arts (AA)
       

    Admission Requirements

    • High School Diploma or California High School Proficiency Exam Certificate
    • No subject requirements
    • No SAT or ACT requirements
       

    Available Programs

    • University transfer courses leading to a BA or BS from a four-year college
    • Occupational courses to secure a job after completing training

    Priority Registration

    Priority registration allows students to register early so they can get into courses before they fill up. To qualify for priority registration, students must:

    1. Participate in orientation
    2. Complete the assessment process
    3. Develop an Education Plan with a counselor or advisor

  • Admission Requirements

    • 'C' or better in all required subjects (higher grade accepted for repeated courses)
    • SAT or ACT exam - exam score and GPA must meet Eligibility Index
    • GPA based on grades 10-12 (P.E. and courses taken before grade 10 meet subject requirement with at least a 'C' but are not used in GPA)
       

    Subject Requirements

    a-g subject requirements. Seven of the 15 a-g courses must be taken in grades 11-12.

    1. History/Social Science – 2 years (4 semesters from U.S. history, world history, geography, government, or civics)
    2. English – 4 years (college-prep composition and literature)
    3. Mathematics – 3 years (algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2; or integrated math 1-3)
    4. Laboratory Science – 2 years
    5. Foreign Language – 2 years of the same language (student with competency in language other than English may qualify for exemption)
    6. Visual & Performing Arts – 1 year
    7. College-Preparatory Elective – 1 additional year of history, English, advanced mathematics, lab science, foreign language, social science, or visual and performing arts

  • Admission Requirements

    • 'C' or better in all required subjects (UC will not honor any course repeated with a 'C' or higher)
    • SAT or ACT exam with three SAT II exams (English composition, mathematics, and one from English literature, foreign language, sciences or social science)
    • GPA based on grades earned in a-g courses in grades 10-12 (honors courses 5-point scale)
    • If GPA is below 3.2 but above 2.8, applicant should consult their counselor

    Paying for College

  • There are hundreds of public and private colleges and universities to choose from both in California and out of state.

    Entrance requirements and expenses vary but are similar to University of California system.
