Celebrating The Launch of Clark Magnet High School's UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind Fitness Center Today, we celebrated the grand opening of our new UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind fitness center at Clark Magnet High School! Glendale Unified is the first school district to partner with UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind on a districtwide scale. Since last spring, we have opened eight new fitness centers at every GUSD middle and high school. UCLA Health also provides curriculum and professional development for GUSD physical education teachers. We are incredibly grateful to UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind and all of our GUSD administrators, educators, and staff who made this special opportunity for our students possible! |

On Tuesday, the Glendale Unified Board of Education unanimously re-adopted their resolution Protecting our Children from Preventable Gun Violence. This resolution supports our district's commitment to protecting the health and safety of GUSD students, families, employees, and community.
Since initially passing this resolution in 2019, our GUSD Board of Education and district leaders have taken proactive measures to protect our students, families, employees, and community from acts of gun violence. GUSD Safe School Plans and Parent/Student Handbooks include information and resources about every parents’/guardians’ legal duty to safely store their firearms. Additionally, the district added a signature form to our registration packet requiring each parent/guardian to acknowledge awareness of their safe gun storage responsibilities. In June 2022, the Board of Education unanimously adopted a second resolution proclaiming the first Friday in June as National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Update on Negotiations with Glendale Teachers Association Over the past year, members of the Glendale Unified and Glendale Teachers Association (GTA) bargaining teams have been meeting to negotiate wages and the terms of a new contract. On November 10, after 13 bargaining sessions, GTA leadership informed their members and Glendale Unified that they declared an impasse in the negotiations. “Impasse” is a mechanism in the negotiations process by which a state-appointed mediator becomes involved in helping all parties reach an agreement.
As a next step, Glendale Unified and GTA bargaining teams will meet in-person with a mediator assigned by the Public Employment Relations Board to assist in the mediation process. This meeting is expected to occur in mid-December. As Glendale Unified strongly believes there is a good faith contract offer on the table, we look forward to the transparent review of the outstanding items by a mediator and are hopeful that this process will bring this nearly year-long negotiation to a swift close.
Over the past 13 bargaining sessions, Glendale Unified has negotiated in good faith the issues raised by GTA leadership and agreed to many of their requests. Regarding wages, Glendale Unified offered a wage proposal that includes three separate compensation increases for GTA members: a 4.5% one-time compensation increase for the 2020-21 school year, a 3.5% ongoing raise retroactive to the 2021-22 school year, and a 5% ongoing raise in the current 2022-23 school year. You can find specific details about Glendale Unified's wage and contract proposals here.
The district remains committed to continuing to work in good faith throughout the next steps of this process. |
